Current professional work

Beijing Haidian foreign language shiyan school

2017-current role

Interactive and innovative Middle School Teacher and Curriculum Curator. Currently teaching Math and ESL.
I joined Beijing Haidian Foreign Language School in 2017 at their new Hainan campus, working to build a new curriculum for the International Department. The most prominent goal was to prepare our students for an American learning environment, as they will each travel to the United States for one year of Middle School or High School education. Over the years I have experience teaching Math, Science, English, Literature, Social Science, Bible class and online studies; working most closely with Math and English. In 2019, I gained experience with our High School junior and senior students, as a CAS advisor for our prestigious IB Program. Now, I have implemented this curriculum and style of teaching across three campuses, utilizing data from students having successfully completed their instruction at Beijing Haidian Foreign Language Shiyan School and in the United States (in conjunction with our program).

Noteable professional Experience

BAKER HALL & BAKER ACADEMY K-12

Fall semester 2020

Title 1: Math and Reading Teacher, Technology Coordinator for remote learning.
Baker Hall & Baker Academy are behavioral, special education schools with a goal to transform the lives of those most challenged in public districts throughout Western New York. In this position, I worked with teachers, students, and parents to assist in preparation for remote learning. Prior to September 2020, these schools had not participated in virtual instruction. I helped train educators and families in Google Classroom and remote learning best practices, focusing on technology and communication. With my instruction, students were able to more properly transition into a new learning environment. My teaching role was to work with K-12 Buffalo School District students who need extra attention in both Math and Reading.

Freelance work

IBC Hungary, EDUCO, PocketGUIDE, Incquery LABS, & PRIVATE ESL CLASSES

2015-2017

Engaging and flexible ESL teacher, copywriter and sales trainer, bringing American culture and language to international businesspeople.
My freelance work began in 2015 when I immersed myself in private tutoring. I was hired by IBC in October 2015 and taught Business English to well-known multi-national organizations, notably; GeneraliKPMG Global, ITelligence, Balabit, BCA, Nalco-Ecolab, Tipton, and AGCO. My degree in International Business gave me great insight into the terminology and language needed at these multi-nationals. I also worked with companies like Incquery Labs, who have partnerships with Embraer and ThyssenKrupp. Together we perfected and optimized their website to showcase collaborations and success stories. My goal was to make the engineering intricacies understandable and relatable to other companies in order to generate more sales for Incquery Labs, as they offer a wealth of services. I spent several years working for the start-up, PocketGuide App. as both a voiceover artist and copywriter. Together we combined different styles of writing and tone to fit their vast market. Additionally, I have collaborated with Slovakia's DuckTv as a voiceover artist and talent. I worked with Oh My Green (Budapest) in 2017, offering trainings and customer-based services in English. The goal was to display American customer service and sales techniques, unfamiliar in Eastern European. All of my freelance work has provided me with skill and experience in a multitude of fields that I enjoy.

Technology + Education

Prezi.com

2012-2014

Support Specialist, Operational Manager, Lead of Payment & Accounts team.
I started at Prezi in February 2012 and quickly worked my way up this fast-paced startup. Working at a start-up company during its infancy, you're able to influence many departments and work with all teams. I spent most of my time at Prezi working on the Learn & Support team as a liaison between engineers and customers. Most of my days were spent working tirelessly on Zendesk, GetSatisfaction, PayPal, Braintree and a homemade CRM, helping with both technology and payment support. I later formed a Payment & Accounts team. I also spent time with the Marketing team, focusing on analytics for Growth marketing and Demand Gen.
One of my largest projects at Prezi was organizing employee support trainings. Every single employee (even the 3 founders of the company) had to participate in my trainings, each getting a small glimpse into supporting our customers at Prezi. This way, each team could have a direct link with both paying and non-paying users.
I attended many conferences and speaking engagements, focusing on public speaking, presenting, and content creation. I've spoken at various schools and universities, large-scale conferences in Amsterdam, Budapest, and San Francisco, and through online trainings. Prezi always encouraged company-wide presenting to practice engagement. I feel very comfortable with these skills and domains, and hope to work with them in the future.

Professional Learning profile

Alyssa Puhacz, June 2021

Professional Learning Defined

I have always believed in experiential learning. Professionally, you can gain the most by putting yourself in a wealth of situations, roles, and experiences. I wish to push myself, career-wise, aiming to be the best instructor. It is important for educators to want to grow in their positions, especially with the future of technology. Professional Learning should showcase a teacher’s ability to learn outside of the classroom, in order to bring more to the table for students to absorb.
The definition of Professional Learning is constantly evolving, and technology is playing a large part in that. As an educator, are you reading about the latest trends and communicating with your colleagues? Are you informed on the latest tools and how they can benefit your school/classroom? Are you up to speed on all of the needs of your students and their individual learning styles? Professional Learning involves a commitment to Professional Development, growing your skillset, and wanting to learn from others. Finally, at present, Professional Learning means that you must be up to date on the latest technology, preparing yourself for changes around every corner.

Goals and Aspirations

-I have a goal to further my career by putting myself in a position where I can gain Professional Development skills. I would like to attend more workshops, teacher training seminars, and conferences. I believe that in pushing myself career-wise, I can obtain the professional success I am looking for. I would like to grow as a leader both inside and outside of the classroom.
-Being an international educator, I hope to make an impact globally and educate, not only my students, but anyone interested in learning about the world. I will continue to be a culturally responsive thought leader - one who is constantly educating herself. My ultimate goal is to be a foremost leader in the field of Cultural Education.
